Cooking attempt: Chicken nuggets

You know what I miss? A good chicken restaurant. Chicken Express! Chick-Fil-A,  Monte Ne Inn, AQ, even Church's Chicken all are missing from the vast wasteland state of South Dakota. We have...KFC. I'm pretty sure that is it.

I know, I know I'm not living in the South anymore and the North has....well I don't really know what they have up here that they don't in the South. um....yeah I got nothing.

Anyway, I have a recipe that I stole from my aunt on how to make CFA chicken nuggets. Which are pretty accurate. But I'm always open for new alternatives as my recipe is a bit time consuming.

I came across this on Pinterest since I am highly addicted to Pinterest. And decided to try it out!

Chickfila Inspired Chicken Nuggets
Ingredients Needed:
Cooking Oil {you can use Peanut but it is not necessary}
1 Egg
1 Cup of Milk
1 Cup of Flour
2 1/2 Tablespoons of Powdered Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Pepper
I Tablespoon of Salt
2 Skinless Boneless Chicken Breast, cut in strips or cubed

Oh look! Milk and egg!

cut up chicken. I was quite proud of how the slicing turned out.

I'm a simple girl with simple tastes.

Bath time!

Powdered sugar, pepper, salt and flour.

I dredged in the egg mixture, then the flour, then the egg, then back to the flour.

Fry baby Fry!! (375 degrees)

I used either olive oil or canola oil.

Next time I'll use peanut oil

Meanwhile, lets make Sweet and Sour sauce!

Sweet & Sour Sauce:
3/4 Cup of White Sugar
1/4 Cup of Soy Sauce
1/3 Cup of White Vinegar
1 Tablespoon of Ketchup
2/3 Cup of Water
2 Tablespoons of Cornstarch

Bring to a boil

simmer away weird  concoction

Ohh look its frying!

and ....not boiling yet. Soon after this was taken it did start to boil.

Let it boil a bit and it will turn slightly gel-like.

Gel like is good.

Fry!

Oh look! Sweet and Sour sauce!

It definitely has an interesting consistency at first. But it tastes absolutely amazing. I was really pleased with this.

Wondering about the paper bag? When I fry things, I put them on a paper bag instead of paper towels. It drains the grease and oil away better, it recycles the grocery bags, and it keeps the chicken from sitting in the grease like paper towels do.

Sweet yummy goodness

Amazing!

So, did it turn out like Chick-Fil-A? Not 100% but pretty close! I think if I upped the sugar and slipped a bit of cinnamon in it would be perfect. Also using peanut oil would definitely help.

They're not as  oily as the CFA version. (Which could be good or bad depending on your tastes)

But it is definitely a GREAT substitute when the nearest CFA is several hours away.

I've never tried the Chick Fil A sweet and sour sauce. So I'm not sure how well that compares. But its a great sauce as it is.
