Christina and Libby meet the Met Gala

Last night was the 2012 Costume Institute Gala or Met Ball. For those that have no earthly idea what the crap I'm talking about, I'll just give you a link to the wiki entry in hopes that you will educate yourself.

Have you learned something? Good.

My friend Libby and I enjoy fashion. Not something I get a chance to talk about with many people around here. Most people just look at me like I'm crazy. Libby is good about letting me ramble and getting a laugh out of my critiques. She tends to have a much more sensible open opinion than I do. She's just an all around better person. We balance each other well.

So lets get started!!

Anna Wintour in custom Prada
Bee Shaffer in Erdem Fall 2012

For those that have no idea who Anna Wintour is, she is the editor-in-chief of Vogue.

Yes. This woman is probably one of the best known and most feared women in fashion. Her opinion is the only opinion to some in regards to fashion.

And she is wearing a lobster dress.

Christina: I sometimes wonder if Anna Wintour simply gave up and just dresses herself to make people go WTF? just to see if anyone would even say anything to her. She's a brilliant businesswoman, she does have an eye for fashion, but she's also someone I would cower in fear of in person. She's also wearing a lobster dress. Her daughter is gorgeous though. Pretty sedate gown, but I'm digging it. There are no crustaceans on it so that's a plus... It's a custom made PRADA lobster....

Libby:

Dakota Fanning in Louis Vuitton

Christina: I love you, Dakota. But why? This looks like my Sweet Sixteen gown from the 90's. I know she's super busy with school, and she came as a guest of Louis Vuitton, but they have so many things they could have put her in to make her look more her age.

Libby:

Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou gown

Christina: I take it Hunger Games is shooting again? THAT IS MAHOGANY! But seriously, I can appreciate the art behind this gown...but...it looks as if they stole someone's doodles and plastered it on silk..

Libby:

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier

Christina: Very vampish, very classic Donna Karan, I like it. It fits well, it goes well with her coloring and she's definitely wearing it. I love that trains are back. This one is very inky. On someone else it could look very Vegas Showgirl.

Libby:

Lilly Collins in Valentino

Christina: Remember Christina Ricci's costume in "Casper"? They found it again. It has a bit of mold now.

Carey Mulligan in Prada

Christina: OMG IT'S THE RAINBOW FISH!!!! (I actually like it though. Prada is definitely branching out in a healthy way) She probably could have used a little powder so her face didn't reflect so much though.

Libby:

Beyonce in Givenchy

Christina: Snufflefugus had an affair with Dita von Teese apparently.

Libby:

Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney

Christina: She needs to just face the wall. The back of this gown is gorgeous, but the front just looks like a fingerprint.

Libby:

Emma Roberts in Escada

Christina: Tangerine is big this season. This gown is age appropriate and classic. I love the peplum. It looks as if it fits a bit strange. But she looks lovely.

Libby:

Rihanna in Tom Ford

Christina: She looks like she's being eaten by a snake. And taking a Honey Badger approach to her apparent consumption by a reptile. nom nom nom

Libby:

Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli

Christina: Classic Amy Adams. I love the gown. But I think Amy still hasn't gotten around to putting up her Christmas decorations because that looks like an XMas bow slapped on her waist.

Libby:

Heidi Klum in Escada

Christina: My God. I guess Project Runway is doing a Kindergarten Competiton this year? And the winner got to dress her for the event? And it was a blind Kindergartner? A blind Kindergartner that hates Heidi Klum?

Libby:

Kirsten Dunst in custom Rodarte

Christina: So....is she wanting to board the Titanic?...or is she going to smack my hands with a ruler?

Libby:

Rashida Jones in Tory Burch

Christina: Rashida must not have received a menu card, because she seems to have brought her own chicken with her.

Libby:

Chloe Sevigny in Miu Miu

Christina: Ever wonder what happened to those millions of free AOL discs? Chloe Sevigny must have been hoarding them for this...dress? 2012 chain mail? Badly thought out bullet proof vest?

Libby:

Christina Ricci in Thakkoon

Christina: I love it. Its very retro with the watteu train, the midi length, the color. I love it. Not everyone can pull it off, a taller woman might make it look a bit too Bride of Frankenstein. But I personally think Christina's tiny frame works it very well. It is perfect for the event. Would I wear it to something like the Golden Globes? No. But for the Met Galla it is perfection.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy

Christina: There are some fads that work, and some fads that don't. The sheer lace fad is still pretty big. I'm not a huge fan of it, but Rooney does it. The top is very classic, very conservative and then BAM! Sex.  It doesn't pull like on some others (Beyonce I'm looking at you) it doesn't look overtly Sexual. But with her fair skin and the way the fabric hangs, it looks lovely.

Libby:

January Jones in Versace

Christina: I guess Versace is doing the new X-Men costumes. . .
