Nutella Sea Salt cookies

I actually made these last weekend. But as usual. I am lazy and am just now getting around to posting about

I made these for a squadron function last Monday. We made cookie bags for the deployers so all of the Key Spouses made cookies and snacks to put in the bags.

Last time we did this I made snickerdoodles so I decided to try something new (And I was insanely bored)

I apparently gave the wrong recipe to someone when we were talking about them. Oops.

I've made nutella cookies before, but these were a lot different

Flour, baking soda and cocoa.

Yum

Mix it up! Woot

Mmmmmmmm Nutella. Random trivia: Did you know Ferrero actually markets this almost primarily as a breakfast item? Strange.

Gold lid! Woohoo

See the Nutella goodness? See the mess I'm making?

Baking with Nutella sucks. Its so messy and hard to get out of the measuring cup.

I really need one of these:

Ohhh its crumbly

Wrap it up and chill it.

Annd this is about the time I realize I'm out of parchment paper.
So tin foil and butter will have to work.

Roll it up!

Sprinkle with sea salt
(I apparently mixed white chocolate chips in with the dough at some point...)

Flatten with a buttered glass bottom

Smile with the kiddo!

Got to put her to work!

So I got lazy and forgot to take an after photo. But they look just like they do when they're flattened. Just not as shiny.

I think they turned out pretty well. I had half of a broken one and it wasn't bad.

I think my recipe made about 2 dozen? I tried a different recipe and it didn't turn out as well. So I made chocolate chip cookies as well.

Here is the recipe for anyone that wants it!

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup Nutella
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling
Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
Using an electric mixer or stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar. Add in the vanilla extract and nutella, mixing until smooth.
Add the dry ingredients half at a time alternately with the milk until well-combined. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let chill in the refrigerator 15 minutes before baking.
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and roll the dough into 1″ balls. Place 2″ apart on the parchment paper. Press down gently and sprinkle with sea salt.
Bake 10-12 minutes until just starting to set. Let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before removing to a cooling rack to cool completely. Makes about 2-3 dozen cookies.
